Description
We developed and installed the fire protection system, bringing it in line with current regulations and ensuring maximum fire safety for the Nuovo Galeazzi hospital. Construction work on the new hospital premises consolidated the top-flight orthopaedic centre of Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, and the leading cardiology unit of Istituto Clinico Sant’Ambrogio, whilst incorporating them into a single facility. The complex occupies an area of 50,000 square metres and consists of two types of construction: one tall building measuring 200 metres in length, 50 metres in width at the base and 90 metres in height with 17 storeys, one of which is underground and 16 above ground. The high-rise houses the main hospital departments, with over 650 beds,
32 operating theatres, outpatient clinics, diagnostic rooms and services suitable for the size of the hospital. The low-rise building houses university classrooms, auditoriums and the A&E unit. As of August 2022, IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio is fully operational. The Nuovo Galeazzi is Italy’s first ‘Hospital of the Future’, with closely integrated Research, University Education and Healthcare facilities. It is also Italy’s first example of a modern vertical hospital, and one of only a few of its kind in Europe and the world. The new structure, with a surface area of approx. 180,000 m2, sees a modern architectural concept that meets the most innovative standards in terms of sustainability and practicality. It brings together the
skills and specialisations of the two existing institutes of the GSD Group: the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi and the Istituto Clinico Sant’Ambrogio. The new hospital became operational in August 2022.
