Description

We were involved in designing the new Amazon logistics hub in Modena. The sorting centre in Spilamberto, covering some 30,000 square metres, is located in the ‘Rio Secco’ area, between via Vignolese, the town centre and the Modena Sud exit and is a sizeable addition to Amazon’s network in Emilia Romagna. The Spilamberto sorting centre was the second of its kind opened by Amazon in Emilia Romagna (after Castel San Giovanni), and is the third hub nationwide. Construction work on this new warehouse was entrusted to Vailog Srl (Segro Group). The staff of the sorting centre is responsible for organising and preparing the parcels from the distribution centres, before dispatching them to the sorting depots and final delivery to customers. A distinctive feature of the project was the emphasis placed on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, with a capacity of 720 kW, supply energy to the warehouse, while the car parks are equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles. In addition, the project promotes sustainable transport by encouraging the use of bicycles through the creation of new cycle lanes. The project was first submitted to the Fire Department on 11 February 2021, followed by further variant projects. The SCIA authorising the entire plant was filed on 19 January 2022. Within the project, our contribution focused on a number of crucial aspects:

– Technical Aim: We developed a fire prevention project, ensuring maximum safety for the plant and the people involved.

– Specialised Project Management: We adopted a specialised project management approach, ensuring each phase of the project was implemented effectively.

– SCIA and Final Authorisation Approvals: We provided the support for drafting and submitting the Certified Start of Activity Reports (SCIA) and Final Authorisation Approvals, thereby ensuring regulations were met. We also obtained the permits needed for the plant’s operation.
