The building was created as an extension in the heart of the existing hospital, abandoning the pattern of horizontal quadrangles and instead increasing height, combining functionality with an aesthetically-pleasing design. Work to create this innovative new facility harnessed high-level partnerships to develop advanced safety systems, including fire protection design.
The new building comprises two large parts that complement each other in both architectural and practical terms: the technical floor housing the most important hospital departments (such as the surgical block, intensive care unit and A&E) and the tower, which accommodates the inpatient wards, doctors’ offices and outpatient clinics. Both meet growing demands for care of an international standard.
